Microwave Hints and Tips

Black RHM2076B Microwave

About your Russell Hobbs microwave

Microwave ovens do not generate any heat themselves but instead cause water molecules in food to vibrate. This vibration produces heat that cooks the food. This is why your food will come out of the microwave piping hot, when your utensils inside the microwave stay much cooler.

Microwaves cannot go through metal, so the inside of the appliance is lined with metal. The door is lined with a fine metal mesh which stops microwaves getting through.

Avoid using scouring pads, steel wool or other abrasives. Warm soapy water and a sponge should get rid of all moisture and food spillages.

How to get the best cooking results

With 5 microwave power levels to choose from, you can ensure all your food is cooked or re-heated to the perfect temperature.

This microwave has automatic defrost settings, all you have to do is input the weight of the food, and the microwave selects the ideal defrost time.

Auto Cook Menus

The RHM2076’s also features pre-programmed auto cook menus such as pizza, fish and popcorn, allowing you to cook all your favourite food at the push of a button.

Hints and tips

To avoid any microwave mishaps it is recommended to take extra care with the following:

Low moisture foods (eg. cereals, bagels, dried pasta, pulses and chocolate)

- These must be cooked on a low power level for a very short length of time, or preferably not at all.

High sugar content foods (eg. jams, syrups)

- These foods can become easily ‘super-heated’ when cooked in a microwave oven.

Foods containing alcohol

- Foods with an alcohol content must not be cooked in a microwave as they could ignite.

Foods with a membrane or outer skin (eg. fruits, sausages, potatoes)

- Food with a sealed or none porous skin must be pierced to allow pressure and steam to escape.

When are Russell Hobbs going to give me a replacement or refund price.I bought this microwave as detailed. After 8 months it went on fire. Russell Hobbs sent dpd to collect it. I have phoned 4 times, they confirm they have it but refuse to speak to me or send a refund. I’ve reported it to trading standards, England. I’m 84 yrs old and depend on my microwave. Absolutely disgusted with Russell Hobbs.

  2. Amazon Customer

READ THIS BEFORE BUYINGLet me start by saying I’m not the kind of person to write reviews on here, not that I don’t appreciate people who do, I just never get around to it. Now the reason why I’m writing this review of the Russell Hobs microwave that I purchased 13 months ago is it very kindly set it self on fire 1 month after the warranty was up, yes you read that right no need to reread it, the microwave which we have looked after as we do all appliances following manufacturers care instructions, that we’ve had for 1 year and a month, decided to SET ITSELF ON FIRE! This happened within 1 minute of heating up soup ready to stir and reheat. I’m sure you can understand how dangerous this is with children in the house, need I say more. Thanks for reading, unfortunately I have a washing machine and coffee maker that are both RH so now I’m now looking to replace them with more proven brands.

It caught on fireIt caught on fire. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. Stay away from this product. Check the photo’s. Had it for under a month, and if I wasn’t in the kitchen my house would of been destroyed. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE. Check other reviews too they say the same thing!!!!!

  4. D Mathis

WAY TOO SMALL INSIDE 🙁 !!!!!!UPDATE: As i threw the packaging away i couldnt return it … so i sold it for £30 on Gumtree :(I bought this Russell Hobbs 20L 800w Microwaveto replace my Russell Hobbs 20L 800w Microwave .… same size, same power, & same brand & nothing fits inside ?Not my plates — Veg Steamer or Meat Pressure Cooker etc !!!The Outer dimensions are the same as the Microwave it replaces butThe internal space is way too small to be of any use to me …& as ive already ripped up the packaging i cant return it.Why has Russell Hobbs done this ?

  5. Nicolas

Does not seems like 20L capacityI had to return it. I had a 17L microwave which broke before buying this one where I used to sterilizing all my baby bottles. When this one arrived and the sterilizer did not fit into the 20L capacity microwave I was very surprised, that is why I returned it.

  6. Amazon Customer

So pleased we bought this — really easy to use and …So pleased we bought this — really easy to use and looks so sleek. For all those trying to work out whether a microwave steriliser for baby bottles will fit inside — the 25.5cm turntable will fit a 27cm width microwave steriliser kit! I couldn’t find this information anywhere online.

  7. llashes

Great item, easy to clean when you know how 🙂Looks great and a quality item. Learnt early on that to wipe all the inevitable marks and finger prints off it — just use a damp cloth and buff with a tea towel. Cleaning products leave smears

  8. Spoogie

Love this microwave 👍At first I was disappointed as I saw this ‘mark’ on the inside but realised later it was a reflection of the light 😊So ignore my previous comment as I’m VERY happy with this new addition to my kitchen 👍

  9. Skeletonjack

Lasted 19 MonthsRecently we discovered the roof of our microwave had what looked like a nasty “mess” from presumably where food had exploded on it.On closer inspection however, this “mess” was not food but was in fact the plastic casing of the oven that had blistered and bubbled. (See my photo, nice isn’t it?)A new microwave was in order. Having searched through the reviews on Amazon it appeared that this Russell Hobbs one is a best seller and very well reviewed. I clicked the link for a better look only to see the message “You purchased this in February 2019”! Yip this awful, blistering mess I wanted to replace was in fact the one I was looking at on Amazon. As an oven it did the job ok, even if it seemed smaller than advertised, but I don’t expect to have to replace a microwave oven less than 2 years after buying it. If you’ve money to burn and like a new one every calendar year then go for it, personally I’d not touch it with a barge pole seeing how long it lasted. Now to find a different one.…..

Overrated, with too many endorsements and ‘reviews’ that look and feel like paid-for puffsI am leaving this review now, almost three years after my purchase, because I am angry: I bought this microwave in November 2017 (based on hugely recommendatory Amazon reviews) and it has always been vastly inferior to the old worn-out microwave it replaced. These are my biggest issues with it:1. The power (max 800 watt) is lower than many similar-priced models and consequently cooking takes longer and is less efficient.2. The cavity is too small: in particular the height is a real issue. I can’t, without difficulty and clumsiness, microwave even such items as a 600g carton from the New Covent Garden Soup Company range (which incidentally recommend microwaving High 100 per cent at 900W) and my small rice-cooker is also difficult to get in and out.I was looking on Amazon because I am so fed up with this inefficient and too-small model that I wanted to buy a replacement. Instead of which I come upon a ‘BestSpy’ ‘Editor’s Choice’, given big-puff billing on the Amazon site, which makes the model RHM 2076S (which looks all-but-identical, or at least very similar, to my RHM 2076B) the best of the entire field: the only ‘con’ the author Kelly Rowett can suggest is, ‘Over-zealous beeping can become irritating.’ (That is one thing I have not been aware of, by the way!)This ‘Best Microwave’ article even proclaims it was ‘Updated 20 August 2020’ (I am writing this on 21 August 2020 — I suggest Ms Rowett does a further update and adds to her list of ‘cons’!)You have to get right to the end of a long article, ‘reviewing’ several different models, to find the all-important rider …‘The publisher earns affiliate commissions from Amazon for qualifying purchases. The opinions expressed about the independently selected products mentioned in this content are those of the publisher, not Amazon.‘Not good enough, Amazon.
