6x more almonds than the supermarket stuffThe world of alternative milks is an insidious affair. Unsuspecting customers may be drawn in by the multitude of offers now in every supermarket, thinking they’ve discovered a dairy-free panacea. But look a little closer at the label, and you’ll often find that the stuff you’re shelling out two quid a bottle for is only 1% almond, with the other non-water ingredients being made up of various oils and rice. Rice!Plenish is in a league of its own. It’s just almonds, water and salt — and 6% almonds at that. So if you want to be technical, it’s 6x as much of what you get from some of the popular nut milks in the supermarket. There’s no rice or seed oils, either, which makes it a MUCH better choice for Paleo diets.Price-wise, it’s not super cheap; my order worked out about £2.37 per bottle, which is at least 37p more than the most expensive milk in Tesco. At least one major brand is usually on offer, so it’s generally about 70p to £1 or more expensive. But, you’re getting far more for your money (who gets almond milk and expects *rice* to be in there?).This is now my to-go brand for a quick glass of almond milk. Second to making your own, this is probably the best current commercial offer on the market.

Tastes awful and separates in coffee.I bought this as I was struggling to find hazelnut milk in the supermarkets in the early days of lockdown. I use it almost exclusively for putting in my coffee. Once it has been added, within 30 seconds it has started to separate from the coffee, quite frankly it looks disgusting. I ended up keeping a spoon in my cup to stir it before taking a gulp. The worse thing is it actually tastes terrible. It gives an awful aftertaste, even using sugar only marginally improves it. I have gone back to using Alpro hazelnut milk instead, it adds a much nicer taste to my coffee, is creamy and doesn’t separate.

Tasty nut milk with clean minimal ingredients! This was a pleasant surprise, I got the hazelnut version and it’s a very light brown colour and quite tasty. I wasn’t expecting it to be much different from almond milk but it’s distinctly different and definitely tastes of hazelnut! Works well in smoothies, chia pudding, porridge, vegan pancakes etc.PROS- Great nutty flavour- Higher nut content than other brands (6% compared to the usual 1 — 2% in most nut milks) so it’s more nutritious- Minimal clean ingredients (literally just hazelnuts, water and salt)- Sugar free- Good consistency and no separation- Longlife (mine had a 6 months expiration date) and lasts 5 days in the fridge after openingCONS- The higher nut content makes the milk higher fat, which might put some people off (but keep in mind that nuts are healthy and low in saturated fats)- It’s a little thinner / more watery than I’m used to (e.g. compared to Provamel)- More expensive than other branded nut milks and supermarket own brandsNotesThere’s also no added calcium, which I think could be a pro or con… Most of the dairy free milk brands add it (usually about 120mg calcium per 100ml), some also add B12 and other vitamins. I guess not everyone wants added vitamins especially when it’s something like calcium carbonate. Plus, although I’ve done it, I personally try to avoid heating milk at high temperatures when synthetic vitamins and additives have been added in so I found Plenish to be a very welcome addition to my kitchen.I do wish the milk was a little bit thicker but I guess you can’t improve on that without adding thickeners to the ingredients list. This aside, I think it’s safe to say I’m a new Plenish fan and will definitely be repurchasing and trying other flavours in the range. It’s just a budgetary issue for me now as it’s a pricey milk (at least double, sometimes triple the price of others).

Updated review: Used to love but something off with latest orderFirst review: Delicious and thick, wonderful in matcha lattes or a cup of tea. I would say it was worth the extra expense.Updated review: There must be something wrong with the second batch I ordered… still tastes good and thick, but it separates so badly in any warm drink. To the point where I feel I am drinking curdled milk. I have tried heating it up gently on the stovetop before putting it in my coffee, but it doesn’t make a difference, and is just an extra hassle.Since I bought this to use in lattes and tea, I could not be more disappointed. Especially since the first order was great!Too expensive to take the chance again.

  5. Maisie H.

I love this almond milk! The best Almond milk I have tried (and I have tried many). I love that it is 6% Almonds, (so highly nutritious), has no added sweeteners or rice milk added and is organic.. Some brands are only 2% almonds or even less. It has a taste that is enjoyable on it’s own or can be used in smoothies, hot drinks (great for hot-chocolate), on cereals etc without over powering the other flavours. I am dairy intolerant but I like the taste of cows and goats milk. With Plenish I don’t feel I’m drinking a poor substitute taste-wise. Good price too compared with some other organic brands. I am a big fan. When my supermarket stopped stocking it, I started ordering it in bulk from Amazon. Thank you Plenish! Thank you Amazon!

Brilliant milk alternativePlenish cashew nut milk is a particularly good milk alternative. Clean and fresh tasting. I’ve used this for a year now, and while a bit more expensive than others, the quality is high and apparent when having tea, making porridge or baking. I love it and don’t buy any other nut milk these days.

  7. Appleblossom

Not quite as expected — DisappointingI bought this Plenish milk because I had bought a Plenish milk that was half the size from another supermarket and it cost me £2. I assumed it would taste the same. It did not. It was much watered down. I realized that the £2 bottle that I had bought from the other supermarket that was exactly half the size of the carton was fuller strength. This is why the large carton of Plenish milk tasted weaker. There was nothing actually wrong with this milk I had bought from Amazon. Only that it much diluted. But it was plainly obvious that in the production of the oat milk this carton was less thick so to speak. With cereal the smaller bottle tasted out of this world, almost identical to cows milk, but with this cartoned milk which was much weaker in strength it did not cut the business. So I would not buy this larger carton again, at least not at £2. If this carton of oak milk was the same strength of the Plenish oat milk I had bought that was half the size and cost £2 then it stands to reason that this larger carton should cost £4. That is if it was the same full strength. I don’t think it merits the £2 price when you think of its competitors out there who do a similar good job of producing a palatable oat milk. I would be willing to pay £1.60p for this Plenish Oat milk but not £2. Milk is a staple. Saving 40p on every carton used saves money! Interestingly, the half bottle of Plenish Oat milk that I purchased for £2 from a supermarket because it was easily double the strength, meant I did not need to use as much for making a cup of tea. But of course when you are having a bowl of cereal you are using much more. Sorry, to have to give a somewhat negative review to a British company, but lessons can be learnt. This product in my view, and I have tried all the Oat Milks out there is not actually superior to any of them and therefore a £2 charge is not justified. If you are keeping this milk so diluted with water, then lower your prices or increase the strength of the product and make the carton smaller. Unfortunately, and this is not Plenish’s fault some of the cartons leaked. I think this was simply from the pressure of the cartons being stocked one on top of another in the warehouse. The actual tops were screwed on tightly. So the packet itself leaked. Well, I suppose we would all leaked if a ten ton weight was piled on top of us!

Not ceoliac friendlyI absolutely love oat milk. I’m a ceoliac and obviously I have to get gluten free oats. I started having this milk as I couldn’t get hold of my regular milk, I’ll be honest, I couldn’t stop farting was extremely bloated felt pretty rubbish. As soon as I stopped having this milk all that stopped. So, THESE ARE NOT CEOLIAC FRIENDLY.Taste is pretty naff, abit harsh tbh., if I’m compering it to my favourite brand. But there is only three ingredients. They won’t go to waste tho, my son who has a dairy allergy is having them. But sadly I won’t be buying them again. Value for money is good tho. By all means try it for yourself, this is only my opinion.

  9. Mum of two!!!

Delicious…Took the leap of faith and ordered the box of 8, so glad we did. My husband is on a new healthy eating eating plan following the keto diet, so this milk had the best ratings for that as it not only is organic, but doesn’t add any other ingredients.Well needless to say it was purchased for my husband, however, we have all tasted it now and it is delicious, it’s turns your coffee into a nut praline delight, hot chocolates into a chocolate box of treats and recipes into heavenly delights. It is delicious and it does separate a bit in coffee but once you stir it it’s fine, we’ve had not major separation as others have described, and it doesn’t alter the taste at all, it still tastes delicious. We would definitely recommend this almond milk, it has a creamy texture, rich subtle nut flavour that enhances everything you add it to. It came well packaged from Amazon and we will be ordering more.Delicious.…

  10. Oriana

Love it!My first experience of cashew milk and was very apprehensive about ordering eight litres of it! I knew it would be okay in porridge, but after reading so many reviews on the various nut milks I was worried what my coffee would be like. I drink gallons of it daily. But my concerns were unfounded. It’s great stuff. The coffee actually tastes better! Previously I have used low-fat dairy so coffee always tastes watery, but with this milk it almost tastes like I have added cream to my coffee. Although it does go a little bit funny, I just keep the spoon in the cup and stir it every so often and it’s fine. I have now completely replaced dairy with this and will certainly continue to order it into the future.
