No more ironing for meI hate ironing with a vengeance, and if I’m honest I’m one on those people that kids themselves that if you give something a good shake when it comes out of the tumble dryer and fold it up quickly you can get away with not ironing. The look of disdain on my mother’s face when she sees me clearly means this isn’t the case. I’m 46 mum, get over it.There are several reasons I hate ironing- I have to get “The Board” out. It is invariably in a cupboard with a million carrier bags, brooms, and the massive washing powder box in front of it, wedged in like some giant jenga piece which involves intricate and complicated removal when I want to use it (and put it back) — think the Krypton Factor, except I’m not wearing a snazzy (unironed) tracksuit and Gordon Burns isn’t cheering me on.Then the iron weighs a ton and always has black bits on the bottom of it from the last time I attempted to use it. It’s a decent iron, don’t think I’ve not tried throwing money at this problem in the past in the mistaken hope that expensive iron = well ironed clothes. I’ve learned the hard way that is a fools way of thinking. Then there’s my technique. I somehow manage to iron more creases into a garment by the time I’ve finished than when I started. What was a lightly wrinkled t shirt will have well defined tramlines all over it by the time I’ve finished, along with a lovely V indentation on the back of the neckline where I’ve forgotten my mums tip of “don’t iron the neckline on the front, it will go through to the back”.When I got the uniform list for my daughter’s new school which mandated a PLEATED skirt and proper shirts, I nearly had an attack of the vapours. I had images of me on a Sunday evening with a basket full of shirts and skirts, damp tea towels to avoid shiny marks placed over the “quality” 100% recycled from plastic bottles polyester skirts that I’ve been fleeced 20 quid each for from the authorised seller, arranging clothes pegs (another mum “tip”) at the bottom of the pleats to try and hold them in place whilst slowly sipping my gin and questioning my life choices thus far. Then I decided to get in control of the situation. Looking down the barrel of 5 years of secondary school uniform ironing I decided to get a steamer. They all seemed much of a muchness so I decided to go for something with a decent water capacity and wattage. To be fair I have spent more time deciding what to watch on Netflix, tech holds no interest for me and domestic tech even less so.I’ve tried this steamer out on my intended target i.e. school uniform and am pretty impressed with the results. See my pics and prepare to be amazed…Disclaimer: both of these items are straight out of their packaging, I’ve not washed them (who does that?) so the creases may have come out easier than after washing them , then getting them out of the tumbler. I’ll have to see what happens there, it’s risk I’m prepared to take. The machine itself is simplicity to use. 30 seconds to heat up and you don’t need to keep your finger on the trigger to keep the steam coming out.My top tips are:Keep your fingers out of the steam when holding a garment (ask me how I know).Move the steamer up and down SLOWLY.Keep the steamer in touch with the fabric.Don’t expect to be able to do more than a couple of shirts and skirts on one tank of water. It only takes 30 seconds to heat up between refills so this isn’t an issue. Top up your drink/eat a biscuit/shout at your husband and/or kids about how you have to do EVERYTHING IN THIS HOUSE during these handy intervals in proceedings.Try and make the clothes and taut as you can, so hold the bottom of a shirt or cuff of a sleeve as you run the steamer over it. As with most things in life, if it’s just flapping about the results won’t be as good, you want a bit of firmness. And there you have it. The upshot is, yes I would recommend this steamer. I certainly won’t be steaming my king-size bedding any time soon, life’s too short for that, but at least my daughter won’t be looking like Worzel Gummidge on her first day at school.

Great for getting creases out of curtainsWe’d re-decorated and bought new, ready-made curtains. Un-packing revealed a mass of creases where they’d been folded in the packaging. We thought ‘hang them and the creases will drop out’. Well, a year later they still hadn’t dropped out, so we bought this steamer. It did a fantastic job — we just left the curtains hanging and gently ran the steamer down and the creases just disappeared!Worked great on ordinary linen curtains and on some shot-silk ones. You have to be patient and move the steam head over the material slowly. The water reservoir lasts 15 minutes and doing two pairs of fairly large curtains was a 2 hour job. Worth it though, the result is glorious. It reaches temperature very quickly and the ‘push for on, push for off’ switch makes for convenient handling — you don’t have to kep your finger on the button while you use it. The lead on the appliance is just long enough to reach ceiling height, but an extension lead will help you reach the top more easily, and please note you need a 10A lead (many are only 5A) because this unit uses 1500W.

The best thing I’ve boughtBest buy so far. I took the time to read through reviews of a few steamers on amazon, for a start the Dyson works lying flat and looked great but the tank looks too small for regular use so I choose this one. It is fantastic, Ive used it on all kinds of materials especially linen. Its very quick and easy and means Im no longer hunting around for an ironing board. The button at the front means that you can switch it on continuous steam with one click which is preferred. The best part is that it also works on flat surfaces such as bed, so you can lay an item on the bed and steam it this way. I believe not many steamers will do this so this was my reasons for the purchase of this item. I even used it on the ironing board cover that was very creased! Perfect!TIPS:Always use the glove on your other hand, the steam gets very hotSteam downwards only, so you can avoid the steam risingUse a peg to hold the clothing when you are going near to the cornersBuy a lot of drinking water so you can refill this. (Don’t use regular tap water as this may cause scaling)Make sure you have properly closed the filler tank. I didn’t close mine fully and had a minor leak.Pros:Works on linens, takes creases outQuickWorks flatElegant design.Large tank.Cons:Far too bulky for travel for my own use, but might work for someone that travels with bigger luggage

  4. Eva Tidy Home

Easy, quick, effective, stylishGreat. I love it. I use it to freshen up my clean already ironed clothes before I wear them and after i make the bed in the morning, to unwrikle the bed sheets and give a nice touch to the bed. I keep it inside my closet and looks very nice.

  5. TD

Ideal for those looking for a steamer for home useI HATE ironing but love my clothes to look perfect, so I finally tried this vertical steamer. I found it easy to use — you just fill the water tank, turn it on and wait for the green light. The results were great, although so far I have only used it on fairly light women’s clothing (t‑shirts, synthetic tops, light knits, light-weight wool trousers) so I cannot comment on how well it would work on a men’s cotton work shirt. For me, its also been great for clothes that are tricky to iron and I have used it far more than I expected.I dont plan to travel with it but would suggest its better for home use as its not as small as some others. It arrived on time in appropriate packaging.

  6. Purple Murple

Very useful gadgetI love this useful gadget! My iron broke, so I bought this instead, and I find it so useful. No getting the ironing board out now!I just hang the item of clothing on the door and steam away all the creases. It comes with a heat proof mitt to protect your hand (the one that’s not holding the steamer), which is very useful. It’s so quick to steam clothes, that I just do it as I need them now. It’s very quick to heat up, has a clear on/off button, it’s easy to remove and replace the water tank and it lasts for ages on one tank full.

  7. Amazon Customer

Quick fix for the lazy parentSo pleased with this product. Perfect for what we needed. We’re not looking for a ironed outfit with sharp cut edges, we just needed to have something i could easily whip over our toddlers many, many clothes without the back break of standing over and ironing board for hours. Was able to just sit on the sofa with a rail infront, put the clothes on a hanger, give them a quick steam and Bobs your uncle! Sorted! Also, even though the steam is hot, it doesn’t get as hot as an iron so no accidental iron burns on your arm as you reach over to get the jug of water!

  8. Joe

Who doesn’t hate ironing?I can not bare to iron, it’s fiddly, awkward and time consuming but I can’t go into work with a creased shirt! This steamer literally makes the creases fall out. I can now do my work shirts for the week in 10 minutes flat.Great product! My only negative feedback is the cord is way too short, you need to use it with an extension lead reallY. I’d say lead length is under 1 metre. No drama, would just be a nice to have.

  9. D. M. Howlett

Makes for a good door stopperThere seems to be hundreds of fantastic reviews on Amazon for these products, I certainly got carried away and so bought one. Really wish I had not bothered as I find the product virtually next to useless. I read things like “cant believe it, the creases just fell away”, really? I started with a thin T‑shirt which already looked half ironed. Spent 15 minutes steam cleaning just the front of it and after that time I gave up as little difference could be seen. I tried steam cleaning 6 inches, 3 inches, 1 inch and touching the garment as I went along and I can honestly say it was a complete waste of my time and money. Same results on other garments. I’m genuinely surprised as I had such high hopes, oh well back to the iron and board as far quicker, groan.

  10. Costa

Broken after two times used but customer service is excellentI’ve been lucky to used it twice and after this just stopped working. If be honest I like older version more then this one. Would I recommend? NO!EDIT: Changed my score to a 3 star due to Homeasy excellent service, they responded to my review, and whilst the product itself, I stand by my comments, I have to applaud Homeasy for taking the time to reach out to customers and offer solutions, very few companies are willing to follow up like this and even fewer would send out an extra product to make sure the customer is satisfied.
