    ‘allo Flour.Hav­ing tried Hey­gates Malt Crunch Malt­ed Bread Flour, thought I’d give this one a try. Unlike the pre­vi­ous flour you need to add salt, it also uses slight­ly less yeast.I use a Von Chef bread mak­er, so decid­ed to ‘run’ this flour on the same set­tings as for the pre­vi­ous flour type. The results have ben real­ly good, the bread has a nice crunch­i­ness to the crust and is not tough to get through, the flavour is nice although not as “malty” as “Hey­gates Malt Crunch Malt­ed Bread Flour”.My only gripe, as with the pre­vi­ous review of Hey­gates Malt Crunch Malt­ed Bread Flour 16kg, is there are no small­er sizes. 16kg is fine if you have a fam­i­ly and go through bread very quick­ly but, for us sin­gle­tons it is a pain. At the rate of rough­ly a loaf per week, 16kg will last me 9months, 2/3months beyond the use by date. Hav­ing said that though the qual­i­ty and taste did­n’t decrease, it remained the same.

    Won­der­ful crunch and tasteThis is superb qual­i­ty flour, which I use to make deli­cious loaves and buns. Per­son­al­ly, I com­bine this with olive oil and sea salt. The dough ris­es beau­ti­ful­ly and pro­duces a won­der­ful malty loaf or buns, which are quick­ly devoured by the whole fam­i­ly. The flour is apt­ly named, because you get a great crunch when you bite into your bread fresh from the oven. This flour pro­duces prop­er tasty bread and is a reg­u­lar pur­chase for me. Just love it!

    Great bread flour — one of the best I have usedThis is an excel­lent flour for mak­ing malt­ed grain bread both by hand and in a bread­mak­er. It is some of the best that I have found — and I have tried an awful lot of flours over the almost fifty years that I have been mak­ing my own bread.My loaves have risen per­fect­ly. The crust is crisp with­out being hard and tough. The flavour is sim­ply won­der­ful. Even my very fussy hub­by approves of bread made with this, with the usu­al touch of white bread flour from the same sup­pli­ers. Thor­ough­ly recommended.

    Excel­lent flour at a good priceI have used Hov­is Gra­nary flour in the past, which is expen­sive on-line and can be dif­fi­cult to find in shops so tried this as an alter­na­tive. It pro­duces bread which is a lit­tle lighter and with a bet­ter crumb than Gra­nary using the same recipe and has an excel­lent taste and texture.I — by which I mean main­ly my wife — use Hey­gates plain flour and there does seem to be a dif­fer­ence between super­mar­ket domes­tic flour and the flour sold to pro­fes­sion­als which always pro­duces good and con­sis­tent results.This is an excel­lent flour, easy to work and which bakes well pro­duc­ing bread which is light and tasty ant a good price and you can’t ask for more than that.

    Sim­ply the bestThank you so much. I have been bak­ing bread for over 40 years and can hon­est­ly say that this is the best bread flour I have ever used. I have no inter­ests at all invest­ed in this review but I feel that I need to tell you I’ve used Hov­is for many years and this flour is far far supe­ri­or. I hope it is avail­able for a long time to come. Thank you.UPDATE: Pur­chased twice now and equal­ly as hap­py with my 2nd Bag. I cal­cu­late I can make 1lb cobs for about 70p each.     Very flavour­someI’m new to bread mak­ing, this is the sec­ond brand of gra­nary flour that I’ve tried. Not real­ly under­stand­ing the dif­fer­ence in the begin­ning I bought ‘with salt’ and the sec­ond time ‘no salt’. I’m yet to decide which is more convenient/better accord­ing to need. I do how­ev­er add three table­spoons of mixed seeds to the mix which I think enhances the flavour. Def­i­nite­ly rec­om­mend Nor­folk Crunch.

    Per­fect!I wor­ried I wouldn’t like it but took a gam­ble (the ‘crunch’ wor­ried me). I couldn’t be more hap­py with the bread I make with this — I use the bog-stan­dard gra­nary loaf recipe in my machine and every loaf turns out per­fect­ly. The tex­ture is stun­ning! The crunchy bits are tiny and eas­i­ly crunched and I absolute­ly adore it fresh or toast­ed — and so do fam­i­ly and friends — it has been com­ment­ed on.The recipe is so sim­ple and the only issue I ever had was when my elec­tron­ic scales broke!

    Love­ly flour. Not plas­tic free pack­ag­ing as stat­ed.I am pleased my flour arrived safe­ly I am just bak­ing my first loaf. Looks like yum­my flour. This is my first try out with het­gates flour am excit­ed to taste my first slice of bread­When it says come in plas­tic free pack­ag­ing — yes the flour itself is in a paper bag etc. But how­ev­er that bag is in a thick plas­tic bag, with a plas­tic grip tie. So it’s not actu­al­ly plas­tic free pack­ag­ing is it? Oth­er bags from oth­er sup­pli­ers arrived safe­ly with­out a plas­tic bag.
