Choosing the Right SPF

It’s ideal to select a sun protection that blocks enough UV rays to adequately protect your skin type. Extended periods of sun exposure also call for a higher SPF. Hawaiian Tropic Sun Care offers a full range of sun protection products up to an SPF50.

Important information

Safety Information:

Warning: Avoid intensive midday sun. No sunscreen product can provide 100% protection. Over-exposure to the sun is a serious health threat. Reducing applied quantity will lower the level of protection significantly.

AmazingI brought this for one reason, and one reason only. Quite possibly the same reason you are reading reviews to maybe buy it… To tan!Pros -~The smell! — Oh wow, I put this as almost the most important thing about this review. The smell is absolutely amazing. If Cuba / Maldives / Spain / Florida / Anywhere tropical has a smell, this is it in a bottle.~Actually helps tan really well, within 30 minutes of the British covid lock down, garden sunbathing, the tanning started.~Arrived in a separate plastic bag to protect other items in case it become damaged in transit.Cons ‑None really, only slight hinderence is that its quite a thick consistency, so need a good pump finger when sqwerting, but other then that, no the product is great.

Beware UVA not as shownI have used this product many times before and it has been perfect. Unfortunately the last two bottles I ordered were only 3 star UVA, when on Amazon they are shown as 5 star.

Says it’s “Dry” so why am I all greasy after using it?I am one of those lucky people that only needs skin moisturiser rather than full protection when I’m sun bathing. Therefore, I am always on the lookout for a product that is less than factor 10 as anything more is just a waste of money.I don’t usually use Hawaiian Tropic much preferring an “Australian” factor 6 equivalent, but it was on sale and I thought, why not?One of the other reasons I switch was also the fact it is advertised as “Dry oil” and my wife swears by these.Anyway, to cut a long story short, yes it does keep skin moisturised, but dry IT IS NOT.Every day I was left with greasy skin after applying this product to the point I just stopped using it and handed it over to the boss and told her she can have it.I’m going back to my Aussie stuff. Which IS dry and frankly, smells better too.

Causes skin problemsI’ve historically used all different types of sun lotions and oils before (Nivea, Soltan, P20, Ultrasun etc), all with no issue. In recent years I’ve tended towards a combination of Coppertone & Piz Buin, but as supplies of some things are difficult to get these days I had to try Hawaiian Tropic. Various factors on different parts of my body all had the same issue — they must block pores or something because I erupted in spots all over. I switched to Calypso (another first try) on some parts of my body first (feet and legs) and these quickly cleared up. I then managed to pick up Piz Buin locally and after switching back my skin eventually started to recover. I will never be buying Hawaiian Tropic again and will ensure I buy PB & Coppertone well in advance in future.

It’s the bottle… that’s the problemRight I’ll start with the positives… The product is exactly what you’re expecting it’s oil it’s smells phenomenal and you’ll tan with it on. Perfect right?! NO!!! Because if you can’t get it out of the accursed bottle it’s useless. The spray mechanism is useless it stopped springing back after three uses. Not three days… two arms, one leg then chuff all. “So unscrew the lid” I hear you cry… well that’s exactly what I did fellow tanners! It seemed a Different consistency to the non-spray version but I can’t back that up. It certainly wasn’t as easy that way. But just to reiterate it smells awesome…

Love this productLove this, have used this product for what feels like years. Smells amazing, doesn’t feel too oily on your skin if you use the right amount. Spray bottle is really handy. Was a bit concerned by the other reviews stating the spray cap got stuck immediately but I’ve had no issues so far. As an Asian I don’t tan as easily as my Scottish pals but using this and sitting in the garden I definitely got a bit of colour!

Great smelling lotion. This product is a little oily but suits me fine, considering I use it to stop me getting sun burnt. After an hour or so the oily feel does go and leaves a soft feel to your skin.I love the smell of coconut and this lotion doesn’t disappoint although it has a slight fruity smell alongside the coconut.I will buy this again, once it has run out and summer comes around. For me all Hawaiian Tropic sun lotions are extremely good and this one is a winner for stopping sunburn but allowing a tan to come through.

Found it to be too oilyCompared to Malibu dry spray I found this was quite oily. You could tell if I had jumped in the pool, compared to the other friends with us, it left a surprisingly large film over the top of the water. Nothing nasty, but I didnt find this to be nearly as much the case with either the other dry spray oil I just mentioned, or other suncreams. It felt oilier on the skin than others too. That said, smelled great and did the job.

Smells great- pump is useless!I have medium olive skin and found this nice to apply, not overly greasy and the smell is really lovely. However after a few uses the spray nozzle starts to stick and it’s a total pain trying to spray the oil out of the bottle. I’m not the only person to have this issue too, which is a shame as I wont repurchase for this reason.

  10. A. Wesley

Misleading UVA protectionAs other have found the bottle I received only has 3 stars UVA, compared to the 5 in the item description (and other bottle I have previously purchased). Normally I don’t mind a mistake in an item description, but in this case for a product which is specially to protect you, I think this is dangerous and should be rectified asap
