Works well but…It’s a good product over all and it works well. Easy to apply lasts ages too. Creams just don’t work for me — I burn like they’re not there at all, and I have quite hairy arms which doesn’t work well with cream either, so I have to go for this. But any review that says it’s not greasy is lying to be honest. Okay so it’s not like covering yourself in veggie oil, and it does absorb better than a lot of creams, as well as being better than any other dry oil type protection I’ve tired, but it does leave an oily film which can transfer to other things for quite some time and it also can stain clothing. Smells very strongly of coconut, which is nice if you’re on the beach but annoying anywhere else. Not perfect, but it really does work well!

Another essential sun protection product from Calypso.I have skin that burns very easily so I am always looking for effective products to prevent sunburn. For my body I use Calypso Once a Day SPF30 and SPF20 which has always worked for me. Unfortunately the Once a Day product isn’t good for my face: it tends to run into my eyes when I am in the sun and perspiring. I tried Calypso once a day cream SPF40 For Kids which worked but left me looking pale and was also a bit heavy for my skin.I then saw this product and decided to give it a try and I am glad I did. On our annual trip to Thailand this was an important item to protect my face and I have to say it was perfect. Easy to apply, fairly light and absorbed quickly. I didn’t burn once despite not applying this Dry Oil more than 3 times a day. I should add that I rarely venture into the sunshine during the danger hours although this year I did on a number of occasions. I made sure that I applied the lotion before going into the sea and even after 30 minute sessions I never burned. A new ‘Must Have’ sun protection item for me. An added bonus for me is that my skin on my face felt really good all day: no tightness at all and it was like I’d moisturized. It smells like sun protection on application but that soon goes-not an unpleasant smell at all. The important thing is this stuff worked perfectly on my fair skin and I have used less than 20% so it is economical too: only used it for my face so you will use a lot more for whole body protection than I did. Thanks Calypso, another life changing sun protection product for me. If you are fair skinned you will understand that statement: for us it is always a Pfaff going out in the sun if we don’t want to get burned. Just use it as often as you need it to be safe.

scalp protectionThis has been pretty good in use on my sunburn prone scalp — although I do use it in conjunction with a hat. Just two or three quick sprays and it’s done. Of course “Dry oil” is an oxymoron but it’s better than other oily sun sprays for the scalp I’ve tried. The main downside is that the spray mechanism isn’t as good as it should be and leaks; I’ve decanted to a better spray bottle. This is the reason I’ve knocked a star off the review.

Great value! Light and easy.Very good for the price! Absorbs quickly and is very light. Spray on and spread with the hand. Only small negative is that the bottle head leaks a bit when you spray but you can just use those extra drops to spread with your hands. Similar products can cost much much more. Highly recommended. I think I might get a refillable aerosol can and fill it with this.

  5. Z lee

Smells awful and stings and is sticky.I bought this thinking it was a product I knew well, when I opened it the smell was really strong and unpleasant. I couldn’t use it as it stung my skin. I’ve used it for years, unsure whether it’s a dodgey batch or they’ve changed the aroma.

Fave for 10+ years! My mum used this on me when I was a child and I still use it now as an adult. Absolutely love the smell!! Non greasy, quick drying but does leave the skin looking dewy and healthy. Couldn’t recommend this more! I carry this in my bag and spray through the day as it’s not as heavy as cream. Also great for scalp protection.

Better than other leading brandsI am extremely fair and pale with cool undertones which leads to redness and burning in the sun. I don’t tan at all and my skin is very sensitive to UVA and UVB. All my life I have used P20 as it has been the only brand I trust (despite ruining so many clothes to its staining). I read glowing reviews for Calypso and thought at £5 per bottle I would pack one in my case for Crete this June and give it a go. I stayed in Almyrida and temperatures fluctuated between 30–37 degrees (full sun) during my stay. I only used this Calypso dry oil spray during my holiday and I have not burnt once. I haven’t tanned but you can tell my skin has seen some sun, as opposed to coming back whiter than I went when I use P20. I’m really impressed, so much so that I’ve cancelled my subscription with the latter and I’m converted to Calypso! It will be in my bag for India and Barcelona this summer.

Lovely product. It does have quite a strong scent, it’s summery n defo has some coconut in, very pleasant. Sprays n dries well/instantly. My skin is soft and protected 🙂

IDEAL FOR NON STICKY NON GREASY SKIN WHEN SUNBATHING !!Prefer these sprays to the usual oils and creams that leave you feeling sticky and greasy after applying. Would recommend !!

  10. chrissie43

Very oilyEasy to use and really liked being able to spray my own back !!However, it is very “oily” and stains clothing.
