Apollo Kettle Black

What Makes This Modern Jug Kettle So Special?

This is a cordless jug kettle that sits on a 360 degree swivel base, so you can position it on your worktop with the handle pointed away to prevent knocks, yet easy to turn around when you want to lift it up. It’s also quite slim, with a small 16cm footprint.

When it comes to boiling your water, this powerful 3000w electric kettle won’t keep you hanging around. We’ve also included double wall insulation and a silicone seal around the lid to help retain heat and prevent wasted energy. However, the cool touch exterior and ergonomic handle means you don’t have to worry about scalded fingers when you lift it up.

When you want to fill the kettle up you just press the button to open to flip top lid through 90 degrees, making it easy to fill from the tap or a jug. When closed, there’s a safety lock on the lid to prevent it opening whilst the kettle is boiling. Finally, the boil dry protection prevents it heating up if there’s no water inside.

Pretty but the lid doesnt sealI bought this is kettle because the kitchenaid kettle is expensive and apparently not reliableThis kettle looks good and is in keeping with my other black and chrome kitchen itemsIt is nice and light, easy to lift, relatively quiet and boils fast enough. Doesn’t drip when it pours… mostlyObviously very few things in life are perfect and the down side of this kettle is that the lid doesnt fit very well so the silicone seal is pointless hence the three stars .… this doesnt make the kettle unusable but you have to be a bit gentile with your pour or it comes out of the lid as well as the spoutdowngrading to two stars because the lid not sealing became really annoying — finally replaced the kettle in November — so a very expensive kettle for 7 months use!

Saves very little EnergySwitched the kettle on, kitchen lights went out, 13 Amp fuse in the plug had blown.Removed the eight screws at the bottom of the kettle to discover that the metal connections to the ends of heating element were touching each other.Separated the metal connections and rebuilt.Clearly the manufacturer did not put the kettle through a functional test before shipping to Andrew James, so this strongly suggests poor quality control. The heating element is similar to all 3000-watt kettles so heated water to boiling in a comparable times. The kettle inner wall is made of steel so soaks up heat energy quickly, reducing efficiency. The outer wall is plastic which isolates the hot inner wall for a short time so safe to touch but does little to retain heat which is stored in the base and metal inner wall.Similarly, the silicone edge of the lid does very little to retain heat but does reduce the noise of closing the – flip top lid, which I liked. My old Russel Hobbs has a base diameter of 15 cm so nothing special about a 16 cm footprint.I was looking for improved energy efficiency and this kettle is not the one, but it works and if it fits with your kitchen aesthetic then I am sure it is fine.‘Old fashioned’ kettles with immersion heaters, not flat plates are up to 8% more efficient when heating 1 litre of water. Think carbon footprint by multiply by the number of kettles in the World

Great kettle so just bought another one for my MumI chose this kettle to replace my existing one which leaked everywhere when being poured. This kettle has a superb pour with no leak anywhere. It is a bit noisy in comparison with my other kettle but boils quickly and efficiently and looks great. The lid also opens up to 90 degrees so easy to fill as well.Really happy with the kettle, and have just been asked by my Mum to get one for her — so a great recommendation for the kettle.

Apollo KettleI use a lot of Andrew James stuff and the colours match my kitchen, so I thought I would give it a go… I don’t like it. Being elderly I wanted something light, but its heavier than I expected, and just as loud. The filter, fixed just inside the spout, caused the water to splash everywhere, but the worst thing of all (in my opinion) is that as the water gauge is hidden behind the handle, it’s very difficult to see. It’s built like a tank, but not the thing for me.

  5. Amazon Customer

very well balanced and the thicker handles are fantastic for my arthritic handsi cannot praise this kettle enough. looks very stylish, lightweight, very well balanced and the thicker handles are fantastic for my arthritic hands. i have other andrew james products i am very happy with. well done regards pat fuller

  6. ROSS G.

Worst kettle I’ve ever purchasedWorst kettle I have ever purchased, the lid feels very cheap and the seal is useless. When you boil it with the same water from a previous boil, it make the water taste disgusting. It doesn’t boil the water to the maximum and clicks off to early so it’s not hot enough. The casing absorbs the heat which makes it uncomfortable to touch. Struggle to see the water level indicator because of the position and the fact it doesn’t light up. I would not recommend this to anyone.

  7. Amazon Customer

DisappointedInitially I was happy with this kettle looks good and boils quickly (if noisily) after only 4 months of light use the lid has snapped off looking at the design the lid is only fixed by 2 bits of flimsy plastic on the hinge and not strong enough to withstand the spring on the release mechanism. I have asked for a replacement I will update on the service I get from the seller.Update- so far so good, I got a reply from the seller within a few hours saying a replacement kettle would be despached in the next day:) so extra star added for ecellent customer service

  8. YEATESY

Nice design for looks and usabilityLooks smart and boils fairly quickly. Light to lift probably because my previous kettle was stainless steel. With the new kettle, the black and silver exterior are plastic, much lighter. Comfortable handle. External water level is large enough though a little hard to read in a darker light. As for the noise level — not a major factor for my purchase, but it isn’t particularly noisy and is certainly quieter than my old one. Nothing particularly outstanding about the kettle, but a good solid, smart kettle that boils fairly quickly, for the price. No funny tasting water, but I always boil a new kettle a few times before using.

And.… it’s not bloody workingJust before Christmas and the button to turn it on wont turn it on anymore. And I bought it in August.… this year 2018.Everything else was pretty good for a reasonably priced kettle. But not much use when it wont boil water. So now my selection filter wont be one of these .…. Grrrrrrrr

  10. MrCoffee

Looks good but..This is a nice looking kettle but I am diappointed with it overall. The fill level is located right behind the handle which for me is annoying and really shoud be on the side to mae it easier to view. When it boils, sometimes it takes an age to switch off and also it rocks badly on the base when boiling which is a concern. Upon reflection I regret purchasing this kettle and will probably steer clear of Andrew James products in the future.
